 Our Inspiration.

The organisation was started by a group of nurses who after attending a workshop on wife battering they saw a need for this service (victim empowerment), as they were troubled by the alarming number of women who were battered by their partners visiting local clinics. They then approached Rev. Tau from FAMSA for further training and assistance in starting an organisation.

About Us.

Lungelo Women's organisation (Lungelo) is a Non-Government organisation registered under section 21 of the companies Act .Which was founded by the Department of Health and Social Development. Lungelo is a transformation agent in the area of development and in readdressing all forms gender based violence.

* Please be informed we also encourage students to do their practicals in our NGO in order to apply their skills in a working environment. E.g. Social worker & Lawyer.

Victim Empowerment Programme
Ø   This Programme focuses on the following:
Ø   Gender sensitive counselling to survivors of abuse and gender based violence including child rape.
Ø   Gender sensitive training for police, child protection unit personnel, change office attendance. Nurses (local’s clinics) community police forums, training of case monitors.
Ø   Court preparation and court support for survivor. Support group for survivors of domestic and sexual violence.

THOL'ULWAZI


Tholu’lwazi project is aimed to educate and inform families and community member’s sexual and physical violence and physical violence and its impact, which will ensure that there is open communication that fortes an environment where there is trust, acceptance and potential for maximized development.
The project will operate from Region D, Soweto in Gauteng. The target Group for the project is parents, guardians and children. The project will address.
  • Communication between parent and child and
  • Enhance parenting skills
SCHOOL’S OUTREACH (GIRL & BOY CHILD)

The programmers focus on socialization of children of children and young in grade 11-12 in relation to sex and sexuality.
(Target group)
Making champions children aged between 7 and 12 years.
Adult in making: Children aged between 13 and 19 years old.
  • The programme works as a preventative measure to end gender-based violence in families.
  • While working with community people, we identified that would help us influence their mind-set of adults.
  • By targeting children that would help us influence their mind-set and create adults who will be able to make informed decision in near future.
  • These will be done through workshops, support groups, play and music therapy.
             

COMMUNITY OUTREACH


The program focus is on educating the community and raising awareness on issues that relate to gender based violence (GBV) and the legal aspects the of. The program tries to simplify the legislation.
The focal point is on the following topics:

  • Maintenance
  • Recognized forms of marriages
  • Wills and intestate
  • Domestic violence act
  • Sexual offences


MEN’S PROGRAMME

The service is targeted at men. The aim is to challenge men’s patriarchal attitudes, values and behavior with regards to violence against women and children.
This is done through dialogues and workshops men are given a platform to share and speak about their experiences and perceptions about domestic and sexual violence.
